Counseling Ministry

Children’s Ministry
The purpose of our faith based children’s ministry programs is to present the hope of Christ to every child entrusted to our care through a safe, structured environment. The ministry is dedicated to helping children work through difficulties in a supportive atmosphere, offering experiences that allow children to heal emotionally, socially, intellectually and spiritually.

Children’s Ministry

Benevolence Ministry
The purpose of our faith based Benevolence Ministry is to promote the Gospel of Jesus Christ by assisting individuals through financial assistance, gifts in kind, volunteer and employee recognition, thrift store merchandise and spiritual support to needy individuals, families, charities and any other institution of similar nature.  The Sunrise Thrift Store is our primary resource in fulfilling our operational goals and missions.

Sunrise Thrift Stores

The History
Desoto Sunrise Homes was founded in 1980 as a not-for-profit organization by a group of Desoto county community leaders to provide a safe, faith-based home for abused and neglected children.  It was dedicated to providing residential care for up to 12 abused and neglected girls, ages 10 to 18.  The Girls Home was the first step in this ministry’s long legacy of care.  Little did the founders know that they were paving the way for something bigger than they could ever dream.

Emergency Shelter
In 1985, the Sunrise Homes opened the Emergency Shelter in Horn Lake.  This facility enabled 24 hour crisis intervention placement of "at-risk" children through the local youth courts and the Mississippi Department of Children Services.

Home for Boys
In 1995, the ministry was expanded with the addition of a Boy’s Home.

Christian Counseling Ministry
Christian Counseling Ministers of Southaven (CCMS) was founded by Dr. David R. Donaldson in 1999 and incorporated soon after in April of 2000.  This biblically based organization was established as a faith based, not-for-profit ministry to the local community. In 2001, a satellite office was established within Barlett Baptist Church.

A Successful Partnership

In April of 2002, CCMS acquired the Desoto Sunrise Homes and continued the social services of the homes as a wholly owned subsidiary of CCMS.

Sunrise Thrift Stores
What started as a small retail shop dedicated to collecting community donated items to aid the children and ministry of the Sunrise Homes was officially established as a not-for-profit organization in 2004, known as the Sunrise Thrift Stores, Inc.  The store was soon expanded into a 30,000 square foot retail facility.  It also serves as a benevolence ministry to the local community.

Unified Ministry
Three ministries collective leadership recognized a tremendous potential to consolidate the respective ministries into a combined, unified organization.  Through fourteen months of planning and development, the merger of all three organizations into CCMS was completed on December 31, 2006.  This new, combined ministry necessitated a name change.  After months of prayerful consideration, Impact Missions was the chosen name for our ministry.  The vision of all three ministries continue today within Impact Missions, Inc. and we are proud of the heritage of our combined ministries.

Testimonials
"It really feels good to be in a strong Christian environment. The staff treats me really well. I even wish I could stay here longer.  My House Parents are very kind!  They cook really good meals and we have fun and exciting times as a family.  I’ve made a lot of new friends that I’ll never forget.  When I leave, I will miss everyone for being so kind. We have tutors who help us in the morning and afternoons with our school work. I also love Bible Class. Our teacher explains things in a way that I can understand and it helps me learn how God plays a major part of my every day life. Church is WOW! I love Impact Missions.  I will never forget my stay or my House Parents for showing me so much love."
- Devon (Emergency Shelter Resident)

These testimonials are a representation of
hundreds of stories just like them. Impact Missions Incorporated reaches out to the children that others have cast away. It is the deep heartfelt mission of every employee, volunteer, and board member to see these hurting children restored to a loving home.

"On our first visit to the Horn Lake shelter there was a little girl about 4 or 5 years old looking out the glass door when we drove up. Memories of my past life, a life of abuse, came back like a tidal wave. When my husband asked if I was ok, all I could do was point to that little girl in the door and say, "that used to be me." From that moment on we both knew that we had to keep the homes open. Not only did God restore my life, but He allowed me to use my past to help the hundreds of children at the shelter and girls home. It is amazing to see how God can use your life for His good. Even when you think your life means nothing to anyone, you are precious in his eyes."
